Fans Disappointed For Being Played By Baran Haider. Here's What He Has To Say.
A few days ago, I interviewed Baran Haider, a music artist from Pakistan, about his post on a Facebook community. He showed off his latest project, a short trailer for his upcoming video game called Wrong Way. Today people contacted me, informed me that he had stolen someone else's work and posted as his own. So, naturally, I contacted him to ask about this. What he told me was a different story.
Baran Haider told me and the community to which he posted his work, that he did a lot of work behind this project, and wasn't stealing anyone's work. In fact, the tutorial on Udemy that people thought he stole from, is from a friend of his. He further added that the video he posted of a gameplay, which also happened to be on the same tutorial, was also his own footage. The person who published the tutorial was his friend and he used Baran's gameplay footage on his page.
He also confirmed that he didn't have any help from his friend, Abdelilah Hamdani, who originally posted the similar project as a tutorial on Udemy. All he had was his guidance, which he used to learn how he could do what he did.
"It's my solo project. He guided me on how to go about this, but I did everything myself", Baran said. "He was in fact inspired and impressed by the work on my end", He added.
To support his claims, he sent over his chats, which were, in fact, dated June 2nd 2021. This was about two months before Baran published his work. This also confirmed that he knew the guy and was taking notes from him. But there is the question of whether or not he made the 3D models himself.
Baran used the highway model and some other assets, which he didn't make himself. To justify this, he claimed that he had permission to use this, and that he did most of the other work himself. This includes animation, VFX, cinematography, editing/post-processing, sound design etc. As a content creator myself, I agree that using assets from other people isn't stealing. In fact, that's what many people do and it's totally cool.
