Arshad Nadeem Makes History Securing Pakistan’s First-Ever Gold Medal since 1992.
Arshad Nadeem has once again made his country proud by not only securing the gold medal in the 2024 Olympics men's Javelin Throw, but also being the first gold achiever in Pakistan since 1992.
Nadeem's 92.97-meter throw set a new record, surpassing the previous record held since 2008. The exceptional throw came in the second round, followed by another impressive 91.79-meter throw. In terms of world record, this 92.97-meter throw was the sixth-longest in javelin history, worthy of global recognition.
Nadeem out-performed Neeraj Chopra, his long-time rival, who managed a best throw of 89.45 meters. Chopra secured the silver medal coming in second place, followed by Anderson Peters, coming in at third place with an 88.54m throw.
This victory was a moment of pride for the nation of Pakistan, lifting the mood ahead of Pakistan Independence Day on 14th August 2024. This success would certainly empower the upcoming athletes from Pakistan.
The rivalry between Pakistan and India is always tough as neighbors. However, Arshad Nadeem clarified that his relationship with India's Neeraj Chopra is very friendly.
“Neeraj and I are on very good terms,” Arshad Nadeem told Al Jazeera last month. “Whenever we are abroad in training or an event, we always talk to each other and stay in touch, but when it comes to competition, then you only think of yourself.”
“India is our neighbor. People on both sides say a lot of things about each other’s country, but this is what sports teaches us – to be friendly and that we don’t have to focus on our differences.”
